Our new Minister Rev. Mat Sheffield is now with us at Ashby Baptist Church. We are delighted to welcome him & his family to our church and we are looking forward to a new and exciting phase in our church’s journey!
Mat became the minister here at Ashby Baptist Church in July 2024, following training for ministry and placement at Rugby Baptist Church. Prior to this Mat was in Children and Family Ministry at Kirby Muxloe Free Church and before that at Sutton Elms Baptist Church. All told, Mat has been in full-time Baptist Ministry of one form or another for approaching 10 years.
Mat attended Regent’s Park College, Oxford for his ministerial training, where he read Theology.
Mat is married to Ali and together they have three children, Jonas, Anna and Jess. As a family they are actively involved in Scouts and Guides across the county, a family passion of theirs.
Mat made the decision to follow Jesus at age eight during Stoneleigh bible week in response to the testimony of one of his friends. (God works through all ages!) His hobbies are collecting and painting miniatures, cycling, fine coffee and reading.
Mat has a particular love of Leicestershire ( the true ‘rose of the shires’) as three of his four churches have been here: Rugby is barely over the border in Warwickshire.
Mat’s favourite bible verse is Galatians 5:1.
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
