Sundays at Ashby Baptist Church

Sunday Mornings at 10:30am

We look forward to welcoming you to our services. Our worship includes a variety of music, quiet times of waiting on God and openness to the Holy Spirit. We read the Bible and pray that we will learn more about God through the preaching. Many find the service a vital part of their Christian life as we thank God for the week past and ask for God’s help in the week ahead.

We are currently in a period between ministers, so members are taking turns in leading the services with occasional guest preachers. Expect something different each week!

Prime Time – 3pm on the Third Sunday of the Month

Prime Time is a quieter and more reflective afternoon service. It is held downstairs in the church lounge.

It is for those who struggle to get to the morning service or for those who find comfort in a smaller group, a time to meet together and enjoy a chat and light refreshments.

Format

Our services do not run to a strict liturgy, but regardless of who’s leading it, you can expect these things: worship intervals, a children’s talk, readings from Scripture and a sermon. A service will normally be built around a theme. Song words and other visuals appear on our TV screens and sound comes through our PA Loop system.

Worship

Our worship leaders lead the modern band with a selection of contemporary and classic songs to help us worship the Lord. There will be periods of musical space where we can give our private worship to God.

Creche

Babies and young children are welcome at our church, and it is a delight to see and hear them. However, there is a room, equipped with toys, next to the main worship area where they are free to play and make their noise. When there are lots of infants, this room is staffed.

Junior Church

Our children spend the first part of the service with the grown-ups then move downstairs for their own activities. Our leaders work through a program to deliver Bible lessons and nurture faith with talk, games, craft and refreshments.

Youth

Teenagers have their own group with a program that parallels the children’s program but at a more mature level. After sharing in the first part of the service, they move to the lounge for a mainly discussion-based time.

All-in Services

The third Sunday of each month is when the children and youth stay with the adults for the duration of the service. This gives their leaders a week off and builds a sense of family. We endeavour to keep the content shorter and more accessible on these Sundays.

Communion

On the first Sunday of the month, we remember the Lord specifically in the bread and non-alcoholic wine of Communion. We allow children to join in, with their parent’s permission. This ceremony recalls the practice instituted by Jesus himself before he was crucified.

Offering

During each service, the offering bags go round to collect donations for the running and charitable giving of the church. No one is under any compulsion to contribute. Many of our fellowship give by regular bank transfer.

Coffee

After the service, we retire to the coffee lounge for a lively time of socialising and giving each other support. Everyone is welcome to join us for tea and coffee, and sometimes biscuits or cakes.
